Three of the best Cyprus beaches
Cyprus is a great place to spend your summer holidays – a great year-round climate, friendly locals and a plethora of cheap accommodation all contribute to its popularity among tourists. If you’re keen to experience the best beaches that the island has to offer then you will probably need a car: Cyprus may be small, but its most beautiful coastal stretches are still many miles apart. Consider car hire from a company like Holiday Autos – or, if you’re brave enough, make like a local and hire a moped. For either of these options, make sure you take out the appropriate insurance. Your day-to-day car insurance may not cover holidays, so you could need to take out a temporary policy from a company like Co-operative Insurance.
Once you’ve arranged transport, it’s time to choose which Cypriot beaches will most appeal to you. Stick to the western peninsula for secluded spots, while the lively resort towns in the east have plenty to offer party animals. From white sand to pebbles and from sun umbrellas to snorkelling, the myriad beaches of Cyprus have something to offer everybody. Here are three of the best.
Phikikoudes Beach
Comprising a long stretch of grey sand surrounded by palm trees, Phikikoudes is one of the most famous beaches in Cyprus. It is around 500 metres long, and is lined with cafes, bars, restaurants and hotels. The commercial and shopping centre of the town is close to the beachside promenade, so it’s perfect for those who want to chill out in the sun while remaining at the centre of things.
Pernera A Beach
Pernera A is a 350 metre long beach located in Agia Napa. It is adjoined by the beaches of Valthia Gonia and Katsarka, and its moderate waves lend themselves to all types of water sports. Pernera A is popular among families due to its resident lifeguards, golden sand and the range of activities on offer. It is also easily accessibly by car and on foot.
Kapparis Beach
If you’re keen to get away from the crowds then Kapparis Beach is the place to be. Located at the end of a one kilometre track in the Kapparis area, it boasts white sand and crystal clear waters. Although popular with locals, Kapparis tends to be overlooked by tourists. It may be slightly tricky to reach – but it’s certainly worth the walk once you arrive.
With budget airlines like Monarch now servicing Paphos, it’s easy to get your beach break at a bargain price. To find the best deals on flights and accommodation, visit a price comparison website or ask your local travel agent.
